Outsourcing is the new and dominant wave of the business world. As businesses shed employees, they increasingly turn to independent contractors to supply what in-house staff used to do. One of the ways they do this is through virtual assistants. These are people who provide certain tasks online. Businesses can use virtual assistants as much or as little as they need to. If you can make yourself available to multiple businesses, you might have plenty of work without ever leaving your house.
But anyway, it is a lot easier to make 6 figures than it may seem, but on the coasts, the cost of living is much more expensive as well. It’s all relative to location! Longshoremen shouldn’t make what they do – that’s a union stranglehold. Same with policemen and well…the white collar jobs as well. I read the same businessweek snippet. Rather generic titles (I’ve met bond traders who don’t make a lot; these must be Goldman Sachs specialist types making millions), etc. Very few can make it through medical school or run a hedge fund. While these are high incomes, it’s a select few who make it to the profession. All part of the bell curve I suppose.
Do you enjoy fast food or going into retail shops? Many companies hire mystery shoppers to test the customer service of their stores. A common one is Subway, which hires mystery shoppers to ensure that "Sandwich Artists" are following all the franchise guidelines. If you have time and can travel to different places, this could be a good side hustle.
Getting businesses to advertise on your podcast, either at the beginning or end, or both, is a great way to create a revenue through podcasts. Most businesses won’t be keen to advertise on your podcast until you can prove a large number of listeners. Therefore, it is unlikely you will be able to start out from the get-go with sponsors. But once you accumulate regular listeners, or a high number of downloads from iTunes, you can start to sell advertising space on your podcasts.
Sell your product or service. Engage in direct sales or sell to businesses. Market your product or service online. Talk to potential customers and listen to their needs. You will make more sales if you understand what motivates a customer. Offer discounts for large customers and allow customers to try your product or service before buying it.
Keep in mind though, you don’t need a website to do sponsored content since you can also get paid if you have a lot of social media followers. My wife has a pretty big Instagram following, and she gets all kinds of sponsorships. Not only does she get paid in cash, but we get a lot of free stuff, too. We’ve received free rugs, free lights, and free carpet cleaners. She only promotes things she loves though, so this strategy works really well for her.
